House Passes Dangerous Environmental Spending Bill

WASHINGTON – The House of Representatives narrowly passed its Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Funding Bill today. The measure has no chance of being considered in the Senate.

Alexandra Adams, managing director for government affairs at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council), made the following statement:

“In a year with devastating heat waves, flooding, and wildfire smoke, the leadership in the House rammed through a historically bad measure that would gut environmental protection and undermine last year’s landmark climate law. This makes no sense.”

“This unprecedented attack on our health, our water, our communities, and our families would only serve to help polluters. With this vote, the majority in the House has not only declared its allegiance to polluters but wasted valuable time instead of collaborating on a real path forward to keep the government open.

“Thankfully, good sense prevails in the Senate and the White House. This dangerous legislation should be ignored and quickly forgotten. Good riddance.”

NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) is an international nonprofit environmental organization with more than 3 million members and online activists. Established in 1970, NRDC uses science, policy, law, and people power to confront the climate crisis, protect public health, and safeguard nature.
