The Aviation Museum of Kentucky entered into a new agreement with Accelecom to enhance the visitor and summer camp experience. Accelecom provides secure and reliable high-speed connectivity and this agreement will increase the capacity and reliability the Museum has to educate visitors and young people about the science of flight and aviation history in Kentucky.

The Museum is located within a 40-year-old hangar at the Lexington Blue Grass Field Airport (LEX). In the past the hangar has had unreliable service due to outdated wiring and an inability to run new lines at the airport. Accelecom has established a Gigabit connection with its network to boost the museum’s platform to teach the public and individuals interested in aviation.

“The Museum’s mission is important to the economic development of Kentucky,” said Jim McCormick, Chairman of the Board of the Aviation Museum of Kentucky. “We are gearing up to host 10 to 17-year-old students at our Aviation Summer Camp, a staple of Museum programming over the past 20 years. The camp is more than just flying a plane; it exposes students to what aviation is about and the wide variety of careers supporting it. We now can incorporate real-time weather updates and content from the internet due to the reliable service provided by Accelecom.”

The agreement with Accelecom will allow the Museum to show people that aviation is more than a hobby, it can be a lifelong career. Visitors and campers now have the chance to find additional ways to experience aviation and learn about the different careers involved including mechanics, meteorologists and controllers. Jobs like these help strengthen the state’s aviation industry and boost the Kentucky economy.

“Accelecom furnished a comprehensive networking solution tailored to fulfill the technical and service requirements of The Aviation Museum of Kentucky,” Accelecom COO Kim Epley said. “This collaboration is empowering Kentucky students to acquire new skills and prepare for success in the digital economy.”

The Museum hosts camps at airports around Kentucky, like the Pike County Regional Airport (PBX) and Bowman Field (LOU). The Museum opened its doors in 1995 and has welcomed guests from all over the country and the world. The Aviation Museum of Kentucky was designated as the official aviation for the Commonwealth in 2006. By 2017, the Museum had contributed $10.3 billion to Kentucky’s economy and supported 129,000 jobs.

The Museum aims to educate young people as well as inspire others with an interest in aviation. There are programs and camps for young people and rotating exhibits at the Museum to teach people about the science of flight and history. Now, the increased connectivity will reduce any limits on how the Museum can reach people and the programs held can continue to grow aviation in the state of Kentucky.
