Paramount Business Jets is celebrating Earth Day with an update to an innovative tool for members of the business aviation community. The Private Jet Carbon Offset Calculator is believed to be the first carbon emissions calculation tool for the BizAv world, first introduced in 2019.
Users can determine the carbon emissions for their trip by inputting the number of passengers, departure and arrival points, type of aircraft or category and calculating the total carbon footprint. The calculator even offers plane options that can provide a lower carbon footprint. The calculator displays the flight time and the total emissions in pounds and metric tons of CO2. There are links on the page for accredited offset programs for those interested to reduce their personal carbon footprint.
“We feel that this can help the environment, and that’s why we put time and effort into updating it,” Paramount Business Jets founder and CEO Richard Zaher said. “We’re proud to be involved with the project.”
The updated calculator now lets the user select a specific category and aircraft model, rather than the first iteration of a model. This allows for more precise calculations for potential carbon emissions. The calculator will now offer the user greener options, if available, highlighting the potential reduction in emissions with a different aircraft.
“This tool helps those who are creating carbon emissions be more aware of them, and helps in lessening them by giving the client the ability to make a more informed decision,” Zaher said.
The page also offers information on other organizations and tools to lower a user’s personal emissions. Information is available for information and strategies to reduce carbon emissions.
“They’re receiving offset requests from clients coming through our calculator on a regular basis,” Zaher said. “We like to say it gives customers the option of lowering their emissions without lowering their comfort level.”
Zaher said when the calculator was first released in 2019, the information was difficult to find. It could have been a multi-day process for BizAv travelers to determine their potential carbon footprint. In an effort to increase sustainability across the industry, Paramount Business jets offers the calculator source code to all service providers that desire to offer a similar feature on their site.
Earth Day is celebrated on April 22. Since 1970, it has been a day to celebrate the earth and reduce human impact. Earth Day is the birth of the environmental movement and is observed in over 190 countries worldwide.
