Phenom 300 slides off runway, breaking fence and stopping short of avenue in Los Angeles

On Tuesday night, an Embraer Phenom 300 business jet was unable to brake and overshot the runway, hitting the fence and stopping short of Prairie Avenue.

According to Aviation Safety Network, the Phenom with registration N16DF left Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) in Wyoming for Hawthorne Airport (HHR) in California and landed on runway 25 with a landing distance available (LDA) of 4193 feet.

Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that at 6:30 p.m. units responded to the scene and found the plane tail had crashed through a perimeter fence. When the fire department arrived, all passengers had already evacuated the plane. There were no injuries for the seven passengers or the pilot on board.

According to ABC7 News, the plane landed safely but could not turn at the runway’s end. This caused the wing to be on Prairie Avenue and the northbound side of the street had to be shut down, according to ABC7.

ASN noted that the nose landing gear collapsed. It was raining at the time of the landing but it is unclear whether the weather played a part in the crash.

The airport shut down to move the plane from the runway but resumed operations once it had been cleared.
